Introduction to Pottery

This course introduces the hand building techniques of pinch, coil, slab and press moulding and the use of the pottery wheel. Students will be introduced to decorating techniques such as slipwork, incising and sgraffito. A selection of pieces produced during the course will be glazed and fired
Clay – will be available to purchase from the teacher on the first evening. 1/2 bag of clay will be approximately $10 If possible please bring the following items from home that can be used as tools.
Cutting wire –fishing line or trace with buttons tied on each end
Large car sponge or similar for cleaning tables
Lidded bucket (approx 10 litres – a large icecream container will be suitable)
Potters needle (darning needle in an old wine cork)
Old towel
Small container to hold water on the wheel – small icecream or margarine container.
Note pad and pen
Please wear comfortable old clothing and covered footwear such as sandshoes or boots.
Many tools can be easily made and will be demonstrated at the first class. Good cheap tool kits are often available from newsagents and the dollar shops
