5 week evening class in Mould making and casting with Jenny Valmadre starting Wednesday 16th of May

What to bring: note pad and pen, bucket, sponges, rubber gloves and a head full of good ideas.

What to wear: old clothes and covered shoes must be worn

Brief overview of workshop
• 16 May, participants will make 3 small blanks in low relief and drop.
• 23 May, the moulds will be poured over the blanks using cottles, clay walls and humping. Time allowing we will also make texture stamps from paper using powder as a release agent.
• 30 May, cast wax, which will cool and be released in time to cast concrete into the same mould. The other two moulds will be used to cast both forms of paper; a very busy night.
• 06 & 13 June, experimentation with surface finishes

Introduction to Digital Photographic Practices


The class is a cluster of two subjects from the CUV41103 Certificate 1V in Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts - CUVPHI05B Use a 35mm SLR camera or digital equivalent and CUVPHI07B Process photo images to work print/file stage. This class is from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Fridays and runs for nine weeks from the 11 of May – 6 July. The teacher for this class will be Shannon Brett. Shannon has named this cluster of classes

Introduction to Digital Photographic Practices
Class Outline
A hands-on introduction to photography using digital cameras and SLR equivalent. Learn about photographic jargon, megapixels, resolution, file formats and how to choose the best camera settings for your photography. This course is designed to meet the needs of participants at different levels of experience and with a variety of photographic interests.
Master digital workflow techniques and use Photoshop to enhance your photographs. Ideal for amateur photographers new to digital cameras and digital imaging. Assessments will include an exhibition project at finale of course.
Required Materials


Students are to supply their own:
• Digital camera (compact or SLR)
• 1GB USB Memory Stick
• Notebook and pen
• A4 size visual diary

Visual Arts Photography Classes starting at TNQTAFE on Friday 20th of April.

Ceramics Student wins joint second place in Indigenous Ceramics Award

Cynthia Vogler  a student in the Diploma of Visual Arts course has won joint second prize in the Indigenous Ceramic Art Award (ICAA) at The Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) currently showing until April - with a combined prize pool of $33,000 the ICAA is the premier award for Indigenous Australian ceramic artists. Cynthia completed an initial Indigenous Art course at Tropical North Queensland TAFE and has been studying the ceramics subjects from the Diploma course as a part time evening student for the past few years while working at TNQTAFE as an Student Support Officer.
